Promoting and implementing practices and procedures underpinning Dignity in the Workplace


A one day course

Programme Objective

To provide an overview of the statutory, common law and industrial relations obligations on employers, managers, supervisors and staff to promote and protect the right of all employees to dignity in a positive working environment.

Learning Outcomes

1. To have an overview of the statutory and non statutory obligations relating to Dignity in the Workplace headings including

  • bullying
  • harassment relating to the “nine grounds” covered by the Employment Equality Act
  • sexual harassment

2. To have an understanding of the preventative and ameliorative measures in the workplace to allow for the management of the risks associated with Dignity in the Workplace issues

3. To have an understanding of the procedural routes to be adopted when complaints and concerns relating to Dignity in the Workplace issues are raised including…

  • Informal interventions
  • Mediation
  • Formal investigation

4. To be cognisant of the generic natural law, administrative law, constitutional law and good practice guidelines in managing an Investigation process

5. To have an appreciation of the appropriate steps to be taken to manage the impact on the workplace following Dignity at Work Investigations

Programme Outline

  • To structure the days training in the following manner
  • 9:30 – 9:45 am – Introduction and fielding questions/queries on timetable
  • 9:45 – 10:30 am Overview of statutory and non-statutory obligations
  • 10:30 – 11:00 am Preventative/Risk Management measures
  • 11:00 – 11:45 am Coffee
  • 11:15 – 12:15 pm Informal interventions – Mediation
  • 12:15 – 1:00 pm Investigations I; Safeguarding the process
  • 1:00 – 2:00 pm Lunch break
  • 2:00 – 3:00 pm Investigations II; Conducting the Investigation
  • 3:00 – 3:30 pm Managing the post investigation scenario
  • 3:30 – 4:45 pm Case Studies,
  • 4:45 – 5:00 pm
  • Advice on further steps to be taken to upskill or maintain knowledge of the subject matter

Programme Methodology

  • To provide power point presentations under each heading followed by Question and Answer sessions
  • To provide handouts on each of the presentations
  • participants broken down into teams applying course content to a set of scenarios
